Hi all! As my vacation winds down I want to share additional tips for maintaining your healthy way of life while on vacation.
1. Utilize early mornings to workout- Before all of the day’s activities began we went down to the hotel gym and exercised. We made sure to do both cardio (I rode the bike, walked the treadmill and did the elliptical trainer) and strength training (both machines and free weights). The buddy system definitely works best on vacation because we all encouraged each other to get into the gym each morning. We followed up our workout with a healthy breakfast and we were ready for the day to begin!
2. Wear a hat and sunglasses in the sun- It seems obvious but I spent years squinting into the sun before I realized that I had to wear sunglasses when spending any time in the sun, even on winter days. This past spring break my sister had a hat and I kept borrowing it from her enough that I finally bought my own. I couldn’t believe the difference it made for my eyes. Also, the skin on our faces is the thinnest on our bodies so it’s super important to protect your face. My daughters borrow my hat enough that I will be purchasing one for each of them too!
3. Pale people need to slather the sunscreen- I am a big advocate for spending time in the sun as those who’ve read my previous post on the sun can attest. However if you’re pale complexioned like my Danielle you must apply sunscreen to prevent a sunburn. Sunburns are definitely not part of a healthy life!
4. Stick to a healthy eating plan- This is another important aspect for a healthy vacation. I encourage my family to make healthy food choices while on vacation (well, really anytime!), and I do the same. It’s hard to see in the picture but we were eating shrimp ceviche, chips, salsa and guacamole, and grilled chicken wings with mango salsa. We’ve eaten like that for so long that it’s second nature for me to scan the menu for healthy choices. The good thing is that my daughters do that now too! As I’ve said in the past I do not deprive myself of anything I want. I just eat less of those things that are in the indulgence category. We are really good at sharing ice cream or other desserts, and a few bites of something that you enjoy can satisfy you. I promise! Just try it!
I’ll get back on my scale when I return home and I’m positive I won’t be horrified due to the healthy tips I’ve followed during this vacation. I hope this has helped you and that by following these tips you will live a life of vitality- like Valerie! 🙂
